About Our Products
Native Americans @ Buffalo Trails is a Lakota/Sioux Indian owned company. Many of our products are manufactured by outside sources to meet our own, or our affilliate's designs and specifications.
Unfortunately, we have been unable to locate any Native American owned factories that produce the kind of products we want to make available. As a consequence we are forced to seek outside sources
to manufacture some of the items that we sell. Unless our description of any items specifically states that this item was handcrafted by a particular Native American artist, please assume that it is a
manufactured item.

Everyday Lakota Sioux-English Dictionary For Beginners ~ Condition: NEW
John Around Him & Albert White Hat, Sr. (Lakota) This Sioux-English dictionary for beginners is an excellent resource for those seeking an understanding of the Sioux's language and culture.
Until recently, the Sioux language had been mainly a spoken language, with no written material recorded. The Sioux, however, do have an abundent amount of history, which has been passed down by word
of mouth and by means of winter counts. A winter count is an animal calender, done on a tanned hide, in which a symbolic figure is painted to represent the most important event of the past year.
The Sioux, as a whole, are made up of loose confederacy of sub-tribes which speak the Sioux language in a number of dialects. The three major dialects are Lakota, Dakota and Nakota, the group using
Lakota being the largest. These are the people on the Rosebud, Pine Ridge, Lower brule and Cheyenne River Reservations.
Much of the credit for turning Lakota into a written language belongs to Rev. Eugene Buechel, who gathered over thirty thousand words to form the first Lakota dictionary. After his death in 1954, Rev.
Paul Manhardt, Holy Mission, Pine Ridge, finished the job of editing the dictionary.
This Everday Lakota dictionary includes 3,800 entries, 300 phrases, idiomatic expressions, time, days, months, numbers, coinage, birds and animals, syntax, accent, and more. Softbound, 124 pages, 1971.
Edited by Joseph S. Karol & Stephen I. Rozman - Native American Author - 124 pp., 5 1/2x8, paperback.
